Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is your fee structure?
We are Fee Only financial advisors. This means we will charge a fee for our services, but will never sell you a product or an investment. We never charge a commission. We charge a flat fee for financial plans based on complexity. Our investment management services are charged as a percentage of the total assets we manage for you. Our minimum quarterly fee is $2,500. Under our typical fee arrangement, the first $1 million in assets is billed at a 1% annual rate, the second $1 million is billed at 0.85%, and amounts above $2 million are billed on a declining annual rate schedule starting at a 0.75%. Our engagement letter and detailed fee schedule is available upon request. We accept no other compensation of any kind, directly or indirectly.
How often can I meet or speak with my advisor?
We encourage active communication: meetings and consultations are available as often as necessary.
How often is my portfolio reviewed; how actively is my portfolio managed?
At Shine Investments, we take a long term view when managing investments. We do not engage in market timing. We work closely with our clients to develop an appropriate asset allocation policy – to determine what portion of their portfolio should be invested in equities (stocks), fixed income (bonds and cash) and other alternative assets such as commodities and real estate. This allocation is set based on the individual’s investment time horizon and investment attitudes and expectations. It is not driven by what the stock market did last week. We select the investments for the allocation and actively manage the portfolio components to maintain appropriate diversification and capitalize on timely investment opportunities as they present themselves.
Will you help me understand my investments?
We are happy to provide investment education on topics about which clients wish to learn more, from particular investments we recommend to broader savings and investment issues.
Can you work with my CPA and attorney to coordinate estate and tax planning issues?
Absolutely. We do so for most of our clients, allowing them to spend that time doing things that are truly important to them.
Can I view my accounts online?
Yes! We primarily use Charles Schwab & Co. as the custodian for our clients’ accounts. You can view your account information and activity at www.schwaballiance.com. You will also be given access to a secure portal on our website to view your quarterly portfolio statements.
