Global GDP

One of the factors we consider in determining investment portfolio allocations is world wealth as measured by global GDP.

It’s interesting to see how the world’s population and GDP are currently distributed and how they are forecast to change. The U.S. $14.4 trillion GDP now represents about one-quarter of worldwide GDP, down from 30.8% in 2000. For our own research purposes, we’ve recently compiled world population and GDP data from various sources. The GDP growth rates we used were for 2010-2011 and in the table, we projected the same growth rates forward to 2020. This leaves a lot of room for error, but we still find the data relevant and worthy of consideration.
